What I do for startups
-
Technology strategy, roadmap and architecture
Building software is expensive. You want to make sure you are building thoughtfully and in a way that aligns with your company’s short and long term objectives. This means, for example, incorporating third party tools and low or no code strategies where possible, avoiding the accumulation of unnecessary technical debt, and creating a foundation that is sufficiently robust and scalable. I can help you work through your priorities and turn this into an implementation strategy and ultimately an architecture that you can execute on with confidence.
-
Business and product strategy
No one knows your business better than you do, but I can help you shape your business and product strategies as it relates to the associated technology dependencies. For example, determining feature prioritization relative to the underlying technology implementation complexity or assessing go to market strategy.
-
Team formation, hiring, and management
It can be hard to know how best to assemble a team to achieve your objectives, as well as to identify high quality talent both in terms of capability and fit. What roles are needed and what are the qualifications? Which roles should be full time and which ones outsourced? What makes a good hire? I can help you put together a hiring plan, execute on it, and lead the team toward achieving your company’s goals.
-
Fundraising, Sales, and Business Development
I can provide technical leadership in the conversation as you work to grow your business, whether you are landing new clients, raising money, establishing new business relationships, or anything else.
-
Budgeting
I can help you work through your product objectives and determine the costs associated with them. This means helping you understand and define your product requirements before breaking them down into implementation phases and the costs associated with each of those. As part of this it is also important to identify risks and contingency plans should those risks come to pass.
-
Fractional CPTO
I can focus on specific areas where you need the most help or assume the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) or CPTO (Chief Technology and Product Officer) role for your company on a part-time basis. I can represent your company in this capacity both internally and externally.
What I do for agencies
-
Discovery
I can work with you to understand the customer’s technology stack and start to map out the technologies that would be required to support the project and the impact this will have on the final set of requirements.
-
Design
I can architect a technology solution that will meet the customer’s needs and that the development team can then execute against.
-
Oversight
I can provide ongoing high level oversight of the project to make sure that the project remains on track in terms of architecture and design decisions, implementation speed and quality, and feature prioritization.
